Rutgers students have grown tired of the same old rutgers bus system, which continues to be an ongoing problem around campus.
Josh, a junior at Rutgers, highlights his displeasure with the bus system. " The LX buses are prioritized the most and that takes away from the students who are trying to get to other campuses."
He goes onto detail how during the busiest time for classes is when the Rutgers drivers begin to take their breaks, which delays students from making it to class on time.
" It gets to be frustrating, because you know your in a hurry and you really cant do anything about it." Josh explained.

Black Rutgers Takes on The Bars
Black Rutgers Takes on The Bars
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J—As the sun sets, New Brunswick, New Jersey’s personality comes more and more to life. This means that students at Rutgers University have lots of places to choose from when it comes to where to spend their Friday and Saturday nights.
Heading to a bar is typically seen as a solid option for many students. However, not all bars are created equal.
Based on a survey done by The Tab, the top three bars for students at Rutgers are Olde Queens Tavern, Scarlet Pub, and Kelly’s Korner.
3. Kelly’s Korner
Although Kelly's Korner was determined to be the third best bar, it was also a place that many Rutgers students had never even considered going to.
Rutgers junior Diane Assante explains that she’s never been to Kelly’s Korner and neither have any of her friends.
This was true as well for many students. Junior Chris Burch even went as far to say that he doesn’t “get why that’s even in the top three.”
2. Scarlet Pub
While many students express that the Scarlet Pub is one of the go-to places, Burch says, “I still haven’t been to Scarlet Pub, there’s always a line.”
This constant and seemingly never-ending line at Scarlet Pub goes to show just how popular this bar is for the average Rutgers student.
1. Olde Queens Tavern
“It’s a very high social atmosphere dominated by white culture,” says Erin Byers about Olde Queens Tavern.
Byers, a Black female student, explains that when she's been at Olde Queens Tavern she felt a little out of place. Regardless of this fact, she says that it is still somewhere you can have a good time at as long as you don’t have any academic obligations.
All the interviewees were Black students at Rutgers whose personal preference on which bars to attend did not align with the list above. Black students preferred to go to The Knight Club over the rest of the bars.
Belonging to what students call “Black Rutgers” results in having a very different college experience than the rest of the school’s students, thus having the hangout spots be different as well.
The seven best bars for Rutgers' dominant culture are as follows:
7. Evelyn’s Restaurant
6. Stuff Yer Face
5. Golden Rail
4. The Knight Club
3. Kelly's Korner
2. Scarlet Pub

Thirsty?... Here are the Top 7 Bars at Rutgers

Hemmanuel Cruz
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ; - From the large fish bowls
at Stuff Yer Face to the Greek life presence at Olde Queens, Rutgers is home to
the most iconic college bars, students say.
Rutgers University is home to over two dozen
bars but one survey taken from students by The Tab, says only a few are among the most
popular with the drunk college crowd.
According to students, each of these bars have
their own unique qualities and their own reasons for showing up late into the
night, to have a beer.
Here
are Rutgers’ Top 3 Best College Bars From this list, according to Rutgers
students:
3.
Kellys Korner Pub and Grill
Kelly’s Korner Pub and Grill is the bar on
this list with the largest food menu and options, offering breakfast as early
as 7 am.
Which is why students say this is a packed
house on football game days.
Rutgers senior Andrew Yu says during game days
this is the best bar to be in because you can have breakfast with a beer. He
says he wakes up early before a football game because he can get stuffed and
get drunk at the same time.
The night time scene is pretty popular as well
according to students, with an array of alternative rock music.
Edward Gonzalez a Rutgers alumnus says this
the only spot in town where you can find some good alternative rock music which
makes it different from all the other spots.
“You just don't find this anywhere else,” said
Gonzalez.
2.
Scarlet Pub
Scarlet Pub is one of the most recognizable
bars on campus students say.
The owner a Lebanese immigrant called Naji is
the highlight of the bar who according to students, personally greets bar
attendees and even sometimes offers you a free shot if he likes you enough.
Pub has exclusive DJ’s that come to perform at
the bar every weekend night.
1. Olde
Queens Tavern
The bartender Eliana Francis told us she sees
generations of students come by the bar, especially on important occasions for
the university.
“We have been here for a long time so it’s
cool a dad who used to go here reliving their memories with their son who
currently does,” said Francis.
Rutgers senior Dorothy Dabal says this bar is
her favorite because it has mostly a Greek life clientele, which makes her more
comfortable because she is in sorority. She says being surrounded by her same
social group makes this bar her favorite.
Olde Queens also offers a free shuttle to
Rutgers football games directly from the bar.

Listing The Top Seven Bars At Rutgers
NEW BRUNSWICK – Marcus Perna loves Olde Queens Tavern
at No. 1 because he thinks that they make the best tasting drinks at this bar.
Perna said, “The drinks aren’t too expensive compared to the other bars here at Rutgers and the deals they run are great”.
The bars here at Rutgers are a big part of the Rutgers culture where students can meet new people or meet up with their friends for a great night out. It's a great way to make a bond with people at this school either during the weekday's or weekends.
Some of this information came from "The Tab", but the list is modified.
He even gets a chance to meet new people as well there.
“I get a chance to meet new people as well through my friends that in fraternities and sororities that I might not know”.
There was one time where Perna said he met some people there last year and they turned into some of my best friends.
There is another bar here that is close to being the top bar here that students also love too.
Jack Shriner agrees with the Scarlet Pub being at No. 2 on this list because Shriner thinks it’s a great bar, but it can get very crowded to the point where you can’t move.
Scarlet Pub was in a competition with some other schools’ bars around the nation and made it to the final four.
Shriner said, The music at this bar is amazing though which definitely makes up for it being so crowded.
He even thinks the drinks are arguable the best at Rutgers.
“The drinks here are great, they put just the right amount of alcohol in them, there are not a lot of other bars here that do that”.
Shriner said, he was in the bar one night and me and the owner of the bar were talking, and he went and got me a VIP card that night.
Now moving onto a bar that is not normally a place everyone goes too but is starting to gain some traction at Rutgers.
Zach Baylees likes Kelly’s Korner being at No. 3 because it’s still a great bar, but it doesn’t get good until around midnight because it is post-game bar.
Baylees said, “The music is great, that one of the main reasons that I go there, and the drinks are pretty good too”.
He always suggests going to Kelly’s after they leave Queens.
Baylees said, “Most of the people that you see at Queens end up going to Kelly’s at the end of the night”.
There was one time when I was out with my friends at Queens and we meet up with a group of girls there, we all left and went to Kelly’s later that same night.

Top 5 Groups for Rutgers University's Record Breaking Dance Marathon

A staple of Rutgers University, the
Dance Marathon charity event has helped hundreds of kids with the Embrace Kids
Foundation. Dozens of clubs, fraternities, and sororities banded together to raise
money with many of them going above and beyond to collect any donation they could.
-->
In yet another record-breaking year,
the event collected $1,120,205.48, topping last year’s total of $1,055,468.37. Students
worked diligently for weeks fundraising and asking friends and family for
donations and got to see their hard work pay off at the end of the night.
-->
Gamma Phi Beta came in fourth place
and raised $44,350. Most members were happy with their total but some felt that
it was not enough.
“We didn’t table as much as I would like to have and some donations fell through,” said fraternity brother Chris Ramirez. He
ended by saying that although he wished he did more, at least they contributed
to a good cause.
Fraternity Alpha Phi Omega placed
third, contributing $50,833 to the overall total. Members were thrilled that
they contribute and as freshman Timmy Sambeski said “couldn’t wait to do it all
again next year”.
It
was a close call between the top two groups but in the end, Chi Psi came up
just short of the number one spot.
Phi
Sigma Sigma raised the most money with a massive total of $65,628 while Chi Psi
came in second with a rousing total of $64,955.
Chi
Psi brother Brad Lo Prinzi said that while some friendly competition between the
two fraternities was nice, it was all for the kids.
“Obviously,
we wanted to come out on top but we still donated a whole lot more than other
groups for a good cause,” Brad said.
With
the biggest total of this year’s event, Phi Sigma Sigma member Matt Matteo
thanked everyone in his fraternity that participated and helped reach this goal.
Even
those working the event were surprised and thrilled to see the final amount.
Rutgers
Student and Dance Marathon organizer Alyssa Rivers worked the event and was ecstatic
to see the total amount raised. “It’s always fun running these events and to be
a part of something so historic is just amazing!” she said with a smile.
Like
previous years, the top groups were comprised primarily of fraternities or sororities.
Psi Psi member Andre Sajnoski said it’s because they are so well connected that
donations are much easier to come by.
“We
know so many people and have the network to reach out that it’s not really a
shock to anyone” he said.
With another successful year
finished, students will just have to wait until next year to try and earn one
of those prestigious top spots.
