Best Bars for you at RU

By Nicole Bowman

Rutgers University is widely known for their partying and night life on campus. Rutgers Universities College Ave. campus alone contains indoor bars, outdoor areas for drinking as well as some of their own personal drinks and specialty nights.

With so many bars to choose from its hard to know which bars are the best of the best and which ones can be avoided all together? Here are the top seven bars at Rutgers University as rated by the students who know them best.

Ranking in at the #1 spot is Olde Queens. While it may not seem like the immediate first choice when looking at the top bars on campus, Olde Queens contains that sentimental college student feeling that can’t be topped, students say.

“You’ve got cheap beer, loud music and all of your friends there” says Rutgers senior Becca Hall.

Students rave about Queens saying that it is the best bar to go to on Tuesday’s because it’s “just where everyone goes”. Senior Tyler Bogart always heads for Olde Queens on a night out because all of his friends are there and “when you know people you have more fun”.

You can’t go wrong with an old school college town bar in the students eyes.

Coming in at a close second is the Scarlet Pub. Students say what sets this bar apart from the rest is their specialty drinks.

“It’s a must to go in and get a BJ shot on your birthday” says Senior student Whitney Jones.

The BJ shot is a layered shot with whip creme running along the side and on top of the shot. You lick up the whip creme and then take the shot using just your mouth says Jones. “Most of the time you end up spilling half the shot all over you but that’s what makes it so entertaining”

Scarlet Pub also has a promotion to entice all of the female students here at Rutgers University. Each week Scarlet pub chooses a lucky lady to be their “WCW”. If chosen, that girl gets her and her friends tab picked up on that Thursday.

Students say this unique atmosphere pushes Scarlet pub past its contenders.

In third place is Kelly’s Korner. “Don’t let its dark interior scare you off, because Kelly’s is the perfect place to hit on an early morning pre-games” says Junior Adam Gray.

Students say whether you need a cheap case of beer for a date with the boys or want to grab mimosas and breakfast sandwiches before a game, Kelly’s is a must.

Gray says, “If you’re looking for cheap food, cheap drinks and a good time, you gotta go to Kelly's.”

One article that also ranks both Scarlet Pub and Olde Queens in the top three is The Tab.

The rest of the bars on the top seven list are #4 Knight Club, #5 Golden Rail, #6 Stuff Yer Face and finally #7 Evelins.
